edits, shmedits

I interrupt this blogging break to bring you edits fresh from the 1st printing of ed&bv!

It is very bothersome for me to discover editing errors after the fact. And, it's difficult to explain how some of these errors make their way into final print, given how many pairs of eyes review the manuscript through various phases. But, things get missed from the original versions into the rough edited drafts, and then into design, and back for review. So, the short of this is I apologize for the typos and errors that are currently in edbv, and I do hope that they haven't caused you too many troubles while immersed in a recipe.

But, some good news... my publisher is getting ready to do a reprint of ed&bv. Yes, already! Very exciting, and this means that the edits you see here will make there way into the next printing.

Thank you to those of you that have e-mailed about editing mishaps - pls continue to do so if you see any errors beyond what's in this list.

(and thanks to Eric over at An Animal Friendly Life for bringing the Red Kuri Squash recipe edit to my attention... and also for his recent review of ed&bv - check it out!)

Thanks... now go eat, drink & be vegan!

ED&BV Recipe Posts

Hiya guys. Quick note to let you know that the recipes for Mellow Lentil 'Sniffle' Soup and Chipotle Lime Two-Bean Hummus have been posted.

I had almost finished posting the Raspberry Cornmeal Pancakes/Celestial Cream recipes, but my computer crashed shortly after. I'm using a replacement laptop for the meantime and don't have access to my recipe files until my computer is fixed. Once up running, I'll get to the other recipes for you. I'll also be posting the Cashew-Ginger Tofu recipe, because I think you must try it out!

Please share the recipe page link (http://viveleveganrecipes.blogspot.com/) on any discussion boards/forums you are part of. It's great for others to try out some ed&bv recipes to get a sense of what it's all about. The archives on this recipe page also has some samples from Vive and TEV. Note to self: Must organize them. (yeah, helps when the computer doesn't bum out on me!)

Also, a reminder to those of you in my area that I'll be doing a cookbook signing at Choices White Rock on Sat Nov 24th 1:30 - 3pm. Recipe samples will be there... not just me!

A Different Kind of Christmas Card

If you are looking for a different & useful type of Christmas card this year, please look at these cards from Project Hands. Though not detailed in this link, you can buy in quantities of 10 cards for just $15. (the larger quantity orders can be personalized)

All proceeds from the cards go directly to Project Hands. I am ordering some cards; they look beautiful in addition to being a lovely way to give... and your cards will help spread the word of this organization. The website also offers info on giving donations as gift cards.

I am still breaking, but really wanted to share this link for those of you interested - so you have time to order. Please do.

Lotsa' Food

*update*: (forgot to mention for those of you in the Vancouver area, I will be at Choices White Rock location for a book signing and recipe sampling Sat Nov 24th, 1:30 - 3pm. Yep, you get to food shop, recipe sample, and pick up a signed cookbook all at the same time!)

..to keep you going. I must take a break for a little while. For a number of reasons, including finishing my Food Network recipes, and for some other reasons that I won't go into.

I want to leave you with some recipes posts, and also get you thinking about cooking some dishes while I'm away.

First, with US Thanksgiving approaching, think about taking a different path with your main course. Try the Moroccan-Infused Vegetable Phyllo Rolls. Really, I need you to make these. With the Balsamic Maple Sauce. Yes, the sauce is a must. These rolls are not difficult. Basically, you chop and roast up all the veg with delicious seasonings, and then toss in the chickpeas once finished. Scoop and roll in a couple of sheets of phyllo. Bake and serve, drizzled with the sauce. You can even use w/w phyllo - I have, and they are still delicious.

Next, I'll be posting the recipe for Mellow Lentil "Sniffle" Soup from ed&bv. Again, I think you need to make this soup! It's a very soothing, comforting soup that is delicious and easy, and perfect for chilly winter days when you want to cozy up with a big bowl of soup and a chunk of whole-grain bread.

Raspberry Cornmeal Pancakes with Celestial Cream. I know, Celestial Cream is not one of my 'healthier' recipes, but it's a wicked good treat. So, okay, save it for desserts if you want. Or... break it out for a Sunday brunch with your sweetie and serve with Raspberry Cornmeal Pancakes. I'll post the recipe for both - including the gluten-free version of the pancakes! Yay!

With the holidays approaching, we need hummus. Hummus for us, hummus to share at parties. I had trouble deciding which recipe to post. I chose my sister's favorite, Chipotle-Lime Two Bean Hummus... for something deliciously different.

Finally, some pics from my archives of photos:
For the set of Food Network recipes, Peanut Thai Vegetable Stew with tofu, sweet potato, and spinach.

Wild Rice and Mushroom Soup from TEV

Bean and Corn Tortilla Lasagna with Avocado from ed&bv

Unbelievably Rich Chocolate Truffles from ed&bv
Savory Tofu Burgers from TEV. It had been about 4 years since I last made these. Hubby and I enjoyed them SO much. You know, when you have a recipe/food again, but like it's the 1st time? Anyhow, I subbed quick oats for the bread crumbs (used a little less), and they were wonderful.

There are probably more in my photo files, but that should keep you occupied for a while.

I will be organizing my blog some while I'm away. I want to give you a directory of all the recipes from ed&bv that I've posted about, so you can quickly link to see a photo and read about them. Plus, I have a pantry list to post that I've referenced in my book.

Thanksgiving note: Also check out Nava Atlas' site for holiday recipes. You can even download an e-book for a small amount, and a portion of the proceeds go to charity. Read more here.

New Recipes, Food Network Canada, & Recipe Post

This is Mexican Bean Soup with Chipotle Avocado Cream. It's a new recipe. I know, I *shouldn't* be working on new stuff (I should be chillin')... but, I'm working on a set of recipes for the Food Network Canada website. Exciting, I know!

This soup has fresh flavors from cumin seeds, jalapeno pepper, and lime, and is much lighter than what you might expect looking at the soup... it's not heavy like chili.

The best thing is that you will all be able to access these recipes from the foodtv.ca website. I'll let you know more when I have additional details.

The not so good thing is that the Blueberry Oat Square recipe that I promised to post is part of my set of recipes for foodtv.ca, so you'll have to wait just a little longer for that one.

But, back to a good thing (because who wants to end a post on a sour note?), I've just posted the recipe for Oatmeal Raisin Cookies from ed&bv.
