Ellen Spotlighting Veganism

Ellen has been doing so much in recent months to bring awareness to eating vegan.  I am always excited to see vegan discussions and cooking demos on her show, and to see it represented in such a sensible, honest, and positive manner.  I'm feeling kind of grateful...

"Organic foods in general are almost certainly safer and often have a smaller ecological footprint and better health value. They are not, htough, necessarily more humane. "Organic" does signal better welfare if we are talking about layin ghens or cattle. It also may signal better welfare for pigs, but that is less certain. For chickens raised for meat and for turkeys, though, "organic" doesn't necessarily mean anything in terms of welfare issues. You can call your turkey organic and torture it daily."  (Source: Eating Animals, Jonathan Safran Foer)

I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian but leaning toward vegan. I love your link to Ellen and all the info in the article.

weighting around, that is so terrific! I had hoped that bringing even more exposure to some of the vegan segments Ellen's had on her show would help give some people a lil' extra nudge. Good luck with making the switch - you'll have fun! :)

Thanks for sharing the link. I'm still new on my vegan journey and it is good to see it getting some more mainstream exposure.

My husband and I have been interested in veganism/vegetarianism for a couple of years. It has shown itself with us giving up eating meat every day/at almost every meal, and us eating vegan for about 4 weeks before we just couldn't take it. ;) And then now with me giving up beef- which is HUGE here in TX- for going on 10 months now. The trickle down effect has been us also giving our children less and less meat and more and more veggies and fruits and whole grains.

I think any exposure to this (vegan) way of living is beneficial to all mankind. I have a goal of someday going "all the way" and I know I'll get there by taking it step by step.
