Birthday Break

I am taking a break from posting this week to do some planning and prepping for my daughter's birthday (if I try to do it all I might not sleep... and I am one cranky mama bear without my zzzz's)!! :)

But, when I return I hope to have some great pics of food that I have tested and prepared during the week!

So, I will leave you with this picture of my Raspberry Frosted Cake with Chocolate Cream Centre from Vive. While I won't be making this cake for my daughter's birthday, I thought I'd post the photo in the spirit of all that's great about birthdays!

The frosting on this cake is thick and creamy, rather than sugary sweet. It is a blend of silken tofu with a syrup made from frozen raspberries and other ingredients.

For this picture (taken for the Vive cover photo shoot) we decided not to frost the entire cake, so we could show the chocolate centre. You can frost this cake either way, or even just dollop a little frosting down the sides a touch keeping it very easy and unstructured.

Well, have a great week you guys, and I'll blog with you soon!! :)

(Note: I will pop on a post mid-week if the hemp prize isn't claimed to announce another winner)

Beautiful cake! Even prettier than I imagined when I read the recipe. I blogged about my experience in getting your cookbook in my 4/19 Midweek Munchies post.

Happy, Happy Birthday!

Thank you, Madelyn... this year is fun for her, and though we are not having a big party for her (she wanted a family party at home), we are doing all the fun and fixins', and really, it's amazing how much time is involved to prepare for that!! :)

Hi Vicki! Thanks for that post write-up... hope you enjoy making the recipes you've selected and of course, enjoy eating them! Thanks for the birthday wishes too... :)

Dreena, happy bithday to the little one!
We're having a party for my oldest this weekend, too. (She's turning 9). She opted for the stay at the hotel thing and have a swimming party there with cousins and friends.

Happy Birthday to your daughter! Sorry I haven't been around in a while. My Grandmother passed away last week. We just got back from out of town.

Hi Kai! Well, happy birthday to your daughter as well!! :) A swimming party and staying at a hotel... that sounds like a fun time - enjoy your weekend! :)

Harmonia, I had been wondering about you... noticing you hadn't posted for a while. That's sad news - I'm sorry for you... hope you are doing okay.

happy birthday to your daughter!

was wondering where you find hazelnut syrup? i wanna make those Chloe Cookies, but haven't found it :( any substitutions if i just can't find it?

Dreena said...

Thanks Michelle!! The hazelnut syrup that I have used for those cookies is the syrup that you often see in places like Starbucks that they use to flavor drinks. That's not where I buy it, though... I can find it in the grocery stores among the coffees/teas/hot chocolate drinks. The bottles at the coffee shops are huge, but if you shop around you will find smaller bottles (about 150 ml). I have the Oscar's brand, but there are other brands out there... I came across a few brands - Torani, Monin, Da Vinci. I'm sure they are all quite comparable. Here's a link with the Oscar's brand so you can see the label: http://www.roasters2000.com/syrups/Index.htm
As a side note, these are nice to drizzle on frozen desserts, and into hot drinks (of course) - and there are lots of flavors out there! Good luck! :)

Now that my world has stopped spinning out of control (work stress, overtime, etc.) I've got time to check up on my favorite blogs. I can't wait for you to get back to posting. Timing on my end was pretty good because I didn't miss a lot I see.
Hope the party went well. You'll let us know what you served the little ones of course, won't you? With pictures?

Thanks for checking in, Carrie, and for that nice message. I will absolutely be showing some pics of the goodies, starting today!

Thanks Rochelle - it's been a week-long birthday celebration it seems, so it's not that belated!
