Vegan Cooking DVD!

Alrighty, I'm revealing the exciting project I will be working on in Portland...

A vegan cooking dvd with the fabulous - chocolate goddess - Julie Hasson (and she's giving her sweet tooth a little break to feature savory vegan recipes on this dvd in addition to her chocolate delights),

and...

the magnificent Bryanna Clark Grogan, who could be/should be crowned as the queen of seitan and faux meats (to name just a few of her specialties).

We will be featuring 5-6 recipes each, covering both sweet and savory items - and YES, I will be showcasing some recipes from Eat, Drink, and Be Vegan!... so get ready!

I am honored to be working with both of these women, and feel very fortunate to be part of this dvd project.

I will be sure to update you soon with recipe details, pics, and a few sneak peeks!! Until then, check out Bryanna's site for a looky-loo!

Yay! I figured this was hush, hush, so I've been keeping my mouth shut about it, but I'm so excited! This is going to be such a great thing and we FOR SURE want to carry it at the store. I hope you have a great time filming it!

Cooooool! I'm sure you'll have as much fun making it as we'll have watching it. Best of luck to you, Bryanna, and Julie!

WOOOOT! Melissa, yes, definitely a "woot-worthy" post!! :) Thanks so much.

Hey sis, I KNOW! Super cool, huh?

Thanks Vicki, I am really looking forward to the trip and change of pace, and hanging out with Julie and such - will be a blast!!

Kris, you did a very good job of keeping it quiet, too! :) Thanks, and we would love to have Herbivore carry the dvd - super!

Thanks so much Bazu!

Jess, it's the bestest... thanks. :)

Hey Teresa!... it's going to be a fabulous experience - and I will learn a lot from both Julie and Bryanna.

Thanks, James.

Hi Melissa... you've been missed. :) Glad to see you came out of 'hiding', even for just a little while. Hope all your studies are going well... and thank you!

Thanks Julie! Btw - that profile pic of you and Matt is too great!! Was this for Hallowe'en (or are you devoted trekkies) - just had to ask... :)

Thank you Cindy!

Hey Kai!! I wasn't sure if you were still hanging about the blogging world - it's nice to 'hear' from you. :) I am pretty stoked about the project, and thank you for stopping in to give your congrats!

I knew of this from Bryanna's site! I am so happy for you and selfishly happy for myself to see the DVD. How exciting! I can't wait to not have to watch something and mentally veganize it.

OMG! That is fantastic!! Can the Food Network be far behind?

Dreena said...

Thanks Laura - I can't wait to see it all come together!!

Hi Leslie... yeah, it's going to be fun for people to see certain recipes 'in the works' rather than try to picture it from reading the page. Maybe we'll do more down the road as well. I will be featuring some new recipes from E,D,B,V too, so that will be exciting to give a 'preview' of some recipes!!

Thanks Carrie!! Man, I wish the Food Network would at least carry a vegetarian show - I can't imagine them doing a vegan show - maybe they will... *some* day!

:o :o :o :o You've made me very happy!!! What a great idea! I love the idea, and love your collaborative team! :)

I have so many cookbooks, but love the idea of seeing talented people making vegan foods! You can get so much more out of it.

I will stay tuned to see when this will be available. It's a must-have! :) :)

This was a great surprise, Dreena!! :) :)

PS> I'm so excited! Lol!!

hahaha Halloween, Dreena! In all truth I'm not that found of Star Trek--I just found the dress at a thrift store for $4.99!

oh, and I am so glad you will be featuring recipes from the new book!!

Thanks Kleo! :)

Candi, you had me chuckling through that whole comment... wanna' come along as our cooking cheerleader? You certainly have the spirit to pump us up!! I saw your post as well - you really ARE excited about this - how great are you? Thank you!

Omg, Julie, now I feel like such a dope! I saw your profile pic change right around that time, and I thought it was a dress you had on, and then with the colors you were both wearing, and then I swore I saw a little emblem on each of your shirts on the right (well, my right). major doh. I hope you aren't upset, you look as cute as ever!! (and believe me, I'd love to be able to wear a skirt/dress like that and look that smokin'! - yeah, that would work for me changing diapers - oh yeah, and maybe if I rewind 10+ (+) years!! :)

Thanks Savannah - yeah, we have nothing to watch on mainstream tv/cooking shows, which is really too bad... but we are bringing something to you in our own way! :)

Julie said...

Dreena--It WAS for Halloween! Those were our Halloween costumes! Sorry-maybe it sounded like I just bought it to wear hehe.

Dreena said...

omg, Julie, how easily comments can be miscontrued!! :) that's funny, thanks for clarifying... (even though I still say you could get away with it)!!

Me again! I made your Morroccan Chickpea Patties and had to come by here and tell you that I loved them! I didn't even have all the ingredients and didn't let the better sit for the time suggested, but I still loved them! I will definitely make them again with the entire recipe this time, and leave time for the batter to sit. Oh, and my 11 year old loved them too! :) :)

Hope you are doing well!!!

Hi Savanna, thanks, that's sweet. Sweet is appropriate given your question! :) Well, for me, I use unrefined sugars only. I never buy white sugar, and when I create recipes, I try to use more of agave nectar, pure maple syrup, brown rice syrup, and then use unrefined sugar (evaporated cane juice, turbinado, etc) where I need to for texture of a baked good. I also try not to buy baked goods with refined sugars. I don't avoid sweets, I enjoy them and think it's okay to have a little during the day when the rest of our diet is very healthy and based on whole foods, lots of veg, and not much processed food. I think we all have to 'draw the line' on certain foods/ingredients we eat. Really, I don't think a little unrefined sugar is all that bad if our diets are otherwise very healthy, though some would disagree with me and say that avoidance of all sugars is best, including those that are more unrefined like maple syrup. I don't know if this answers your question - oh, as for molasses, blackstrap molasses is actually VERY high in iron, and also a source of calcium, so if there is one unrefined sugar that is more nutritious to consume, this is certainly it.

Hey Candi! Yipeeee! I'm thrilled you liked those patties so much - thanks for dropping by to leave a note. (and it's always SUCH a bonus when our kids gobble up the good food, huh?!)

Thank you, Vicki. :)
