Excluding Province of Quebec, why is that? I feel left out...
I can't wait for your next book Dreena. Is it anytime soon? Can't wait!!!
Only thing I found on flax was.. Over 35% of Salba® is fibre (90% of which is insoluble and 10% soluble) - considerably higher than wheat bran and flax.
And of course that it ranks supeiror in nutrition compared to flax, with no after taste.
Hope it's right. =P
This is what I learned:
Unlike other Omega 3 rich foods such as Flax seed, Salba® has no discernable taste.
Also it is superior in nutrition to other powerhouses-such as flax seeds.
Salba is the only plant with a medical patent, has a superior omega 3:6 ratio and unlike flax has no discernable taste so takes on the flavour of whatever you use it with.
Salba® is the only food that holds a medical patent (60-274.256). The patent pertains to Salba’s ability to manage the effects of diabetes and the dietary approaches to such management.Unlike other Omega 3 rich foods such as Flax seed, Salba® has no discernable taste.
thats great cuz i don't like the taste of flax =(
Hi anonymous... it's beyond my control, sorry. I don't know exactly why Quebec is excluded from many Canadian contests (since that is the situation with most contests in Canada, not just this one), but my understanding is that it's because of specific contest rules and regulations that Quebec has provincially in order for it to be included in contests. Sorry, I'd change it if I could!... as for my cookbook I don't have a publishing date for you yet, when I do I'll be sure to post about it!
You lucky Canadians!
The answer:
Salba is more nutritious and easier to use than flax seed!
Salba is more nutritious than flax (it also doesn't have the slightly bitter taste)! Sure hope I win. I am a big Salba fan!
The major difference is that "Salba is packed with more energizing nutrition than any other vegetable source, even Flax".
I like Salba and flax and and your blog Dreena...even though they area all very different! I think one of the biggest differences between flax and Salba is that you don't need to grind Salba in order to digest it. It is a readily digestable whole seed, while flax seeds often need to be ground in order for our digestive systems to process them. Of course there is also the fact that Salba doesn't have as strong a taste as flax so its better sprinkled on things like cereal in the morning :)
Salba is more nutritious and easier to use than flax seed! Salba has 25-30% more fiber than flax and 30% more Omega-3s, and flax has a thick husk that can't be digested- it has to be ground, Salba doesn't need to be ground.
Yummmm Salba Krispy Rice Bars :)
According to the website, Salba "is packed with more energizing nutrition than any other vegetable source, even Flax".
I found a couple. It's superior in nutrition and there's no flax aftertaste (although I can't say I've had a problem with flaxy aftertaste...)
Thanks for hosting the contest!
& the answer is..
"Salba is more nutritious and easier to use than flax seed" - FACT!
Thanks for the giveaway!
I learned that Salba is the only plant with a medical patent. Salba differs from flax seed in that it is richer in Omega 3 and has no distinguishable taste.
Salba has more of both high fiber and Omega-3 fatty acid content (alpha-linolenic acid) then Flax. Also, the human body can digest the whole seed easily, including the husk, unlike the hard husk of the flax seed.
Salba "is packed with more energizing nutrition than any other vegetable source, even Flax".
And no discernable taste.
