Baked Better Bread Mixes (win!)

Baked Better is a young Brooklyn-based company that makes bread mixes.  Not like the ones you've seen collecting dust in the grocery store.  These bread mixes are special, because they are vegan, organic, preservative-free, sugar-free and whole-grain.

The company began with two friends who shared a passion for baking and eating healthy. After years of baking homemade bread for their friends and family in New York, they wanted to bring bread-baking back to the home cook's kitchen - by making it easy.  And they have, because all you have to add is water - and some loving stirring!

It's that simple!  And still healthy.  Their custom mixes include Cobble Hill Crave, Park Slope Staple, and Dumbo Delicious.

So, let's add this up.  Baked Better makes bread mixes that are:
1) easy for YOU to make
2) are organic, vegan, and whole-grain (think this gets three points!)
5) it easy for you to try...

because, yes, Baked Better has joined my 'countdown to LTEV giveaways'!  They are offering one of you the chance to win a "Baker's Pack" that includes one of each variety of their organic bread mixes and a Cuisinart nonstick loaf pan.  Wow!

Contest is open to residents of US and Canada! Entries accepted until 8pm PST.  To enter:

The winner gets a baker's pack!  So 2 chances for you to win!  Plus their fb page has photos of each step of the baking process so you can see these mixes in action!

Happy Canada Day Giveaway, Eh?!

Koo-loo-koo-koo, koo-loo-koo-koo!  Happy Canada Day my fellow Canucks.  I wish you a fun-filled holiday, and to celebrate I am giving away one of my cookbooks (your choice)!

Just enter your comment on this post - and, why not share your own fave "Great White North" bit while your at it!  (Those of you too young to remember Bob & Doug, this will bring you up to speed!)

Oh, and the giveaway is open to Canadians only this time round!

(p.s. to everyone outside of Canada, yes, I am perpetuating a stereotype with this Great White North video - and yes, I know it's not very vegan either - not to be taken seriously, folks!)

Have a Happy Canada Day! :)

Making Baby Food & Top Chef Giveaway

Top Chef: New York (Season 5)I have a cool giveaway for you guys!  Just before Christmas I was contacted about hosting a Top Chef giveaway as part of the release of the Top Chef Season 5 DVD.

So you, my lovely readers, have a chance to win both of these items:

1)  Top Chef Cookbook  (obviously, this is not a vegan cookbook, but you can still expand your knowledge of cooking techniques, spices, food tips, etc)

2)  Top Chef Santoku Knife(so you can take on all those root vegetables and winter squash)

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post* answering these three questions...

- who would you like to see as a guest judge on Top Chef (any answer is okay, have fun, be creative, doesn't have to be a chef/cook, can be a celebrity, musician, etc!)
- what vegan dish or ingredients would you suggest Top Chef tackle on a show?
- you don't need to be a Top Chef to do what?  Link for clue!

And, I've just posted a new article on True/Slant about making your own baby food.  If you find this article interesting, please feel free to share the link on any mothering/parenting/vegan forums where you think it might be of help to other parents with wee vegan ones.

*One entry per person.  Contest open to residents of the US and Canada.

Back-to-School Blues Giveaway

I got the back-to-school blues, and am singin' my woes in my latest T/S piece. I don't know if other parents out there feel like I do. I realize I'm in the minority with this sentiment, but hey, I'm not really 'in the norm' anyhow!

So, I thought I'd try to lift spirits with a cookbook giveaway (you choose which cookbook)! It's been a while since I've thrown a book your way, and now's a good time! Even if you already have my books, you can always score a copy to give to a friend, or relative... maybe help with your Christmas gift list?!

Comment on this post to enter, and with the answer to this question: when the winter weather hits, where will you likely find Dreena? (hint: click through to find the answer). Also, the standard rules of my giveaways apply, found here.

Be sure to leave your comment on this blog post, not on the True/Slant article (of course you're always welcome to comment on t/s, but that comment will not be eligible for the contest).

Go read, and good luck!
