Things That Make You Go... Mmmm!
LaraBar has won me over! Before trying these bars, I did not believe they could possibly be too interesting and tasty with so few - raw - ingredients. I was wrong. (Wait, did I say those words?...don't tell my husband!)
Seriously, these are tasty little energy bars; a testament to real, clean food. Nothing processed or refined in a LaraBar. They are vegan, and also gluten-, corn-, and soy-free.
So far I have tried the Apple Pie, Banana Cookie, and Chocolate Coconut Chew flavors. They are all delicious and distinct in their flavor, and although they are sweet because they are made with dates and other raw fruits, this sweetness is natural and balanced with raw nuts... really enjoyable. I can't decide which is my favorite, and there are still more flavors to try!
These bars may be a little more expensive than some (though not all) energy/snack bars. You can always stock up when your retailer runs a special, and I think this is one of those cases where you get what you pay for - a premium energy bar.
Visit their website for facts and nutritional notes on each flavor, as well as their fun Humm-ble Beginnings. Their T-shirts look sweet as well!

I love the chocolate mole flavor - kinda hard to come by though!
I've heard about these I but haven't seen them around here (Nova Scotia) yet. I'll keep my eyes open though.
Hi Madelyn - they are on special (a little cheaper anyhow) at Choices right now. I wouldn't say you have to drink much water with them. Maybe a little beforehand, and even 1/2 a bar is probably sufficient as a light snack. I never drink water "with" my meals anyhow - mostly before and then a little after (I've read it's better for digestion). These bars are really pure with ingredients like dates, walnuts, almonds, etc, so they don't have added sodium/artifical ingredients that other bars do.
Hi Danielle - I just recently found them as well. You may want to check their retailers on their website, or even e-mail them to see if they will get distribution in your area. Do you live in Halifax, by the way? I was born and raised in Newfoundland (St. John's). :)
Excellent, Madelyn! I do love the Chocolate Coconut one as well... definitely in the running as my favorite flavor!
Madelyn, you are far too cheery and enthusiastic to ever get sick of! :) !!
I've been wanting to try those!
In answer to your question:
Well, I got them from a vegetarian cookbook I got years ago but switched a few things to veganize ‘em. Nope, I’m not a cook, but I’m trying!
I love larabars, they can be difficult to find around here (Meridian, ID) though.
Dreena,
Yes, I'm in Halifax. :) I've never been to Newfoundland, but my family (mom, stepdad, and brother) love Newfoundland and have gone vacationing there a few times.
I love the Chocolate Mole flavor. They are just awesome--or is that rawsome? Hee hee.
Ok, Danielle, that's too cute! You should send that slogan to them by e-mail - I think they'd love that one! I haven't tried the Chocolate Mole yet - now I have to! I wondered if it would be a bit too spicy/hot... I had chocolate once with chiles in it, and I just couldn't eat it - now, that's sad! :) Thanks for the tip!
Chocolate Mole has a bit of a kick, but is not too spicy. You'll definitely get a warm glow, though.
When my boyfriend and I went out to eat on NYE at the local upscale vegetarian (finally Washington, DC, has one), the dessert was bananas in a chocolate-chipotle sauce, and that REALLY had a kick.
Just picked up a Chocolate Mole to try, Danielle... couldn't resist all the hype! :)
Pecan Pie is the best! Ingredients: Pecans, dates, almonds. Period. And my kids want me to pack the Cashew Cookie bars in their lunch everyday.
You can buy on veganessentials.com by the boxful, fyi.
Hi Madness Rivera - I haven't been able to try the Pecan Pie flavor yet - :( - not a flavor my local health market carries... yet! Will have to speak to them about that... :)
