Review of Vive - Veg Blog

"In addition to the all the great recipes, one small--but very important--thing that Dreena and her publisher got very right with this book is the format."

"Both The Everyday Vegan and Vive le Vegan! accomplish one important thing: they collect recipes that are accessible, but not the same ones you've seen a hundred times before."
These are a couple of quotes from a new review of Vive le Vegan! by Ryan at Veg Blog. Link on over to read more.

I know some of you may be new to my blog, and wondering about my cookbooks, so this review will give you a little more info about Vive le Vegan!

You can also link to Ryan's review of TEV here.

Thank you Ryan... very much.

I was just over at VegBlog and read the very nice review. I was going to mention it here in case others missed it. Now we'll be even more impatient for the new book.

I agree with the format and large fonts. I currently have both books sprawled out on the counter (anticipating the Mango Ice Cream and just made Creamy Hummus twice in the same week!). I am not surpised at all that people are saying these wonderful things.

Congrats Dreena - this must feel good! You deserve it. I also agree with the comment in the review that said you were 'accessible'. I'm always a little star-stuck when I come to your blog, see you comment on other people's blogs, or even my blog (gasp, sigh, faint!) :-)

Thank you everyone... what fabulous support you are! I appreciate your feedback and always interested to hear what you like best and don't like (really!!) This will help me with the next book, and as I've mentioned before, it's because of my work on this blog that I felt inspired to write my next cookbook, so your input/ideas/criticism/suggestions are most appreciated. :)

Is there anybody who doesn't like the layout of your books?

You totally deserve all the rave reviews.

And yes, you are accessible and then some.

One time, when my oldest saw your comment on my blog, she went, "Mama, that's Miss Dreena!"

Nifty!

Well, I had Tubini Pasta with Red Bell Pepper and Tomato Sauce last night. You're right! I missed greens!

*slaps herself on forehead!*

I can't read to find your books at my local library.

I meant to write, "I can't WAIT."

Just wanted to pop in and say that I was motivated to buy Vive after seeing the amazing recipes on here-- we've had the _Everyday Vegan_ for four years now and I LOVE it, but was dragging on buying Vive-- among the many things I love about it is the way you really encourage people to *try* other grains and a real variety of ingredients. Through your suggestions I'm venturing out into some unfamiliar territory-- thanks again!!

I've never had a more used & well loved cook book as Vive and it makes it even better that you blog about your recipes. Congratulations!

Kai, that's just too adorable!! Thank you for that lovely feedback (and your daughter). :)

Oh, that's great to hear Savanna! I aim to have recipes that use fairly common things, and if an ingredient is somewhat 'out of the ordinary', then I try to use it in another few places in other recipes so it doesn't go to waste. Your mom must be enjoying all the cooking/baking you want to do!!

You're funny Harmonia! Naw, it's not like your messing up or anything! I do enjoy sauteed greens with basic pasta and jarred sauce. Just a nice combo for me with the greens lightly cooked in olive oil and garlic, goes well with pasta - try it next time. :)

Thanks anonymous! Wasn't getting the first comment until I read on... have done that myself more than once!

Wow, thank you a bunch Stephanie! What recipes do you like best in TEV?? I am pleased to hear that you are going to explore the unknown with some new grains - it was the very same for me while I was in the early stages of writing Vive. Now, some of those 'scary grains' and other unknown foods are my favorites! Thanks again, and I hope you enjoy the Vive recipes as much as TEV. :)

Gosh, I am truly complimented by that comment Vicki. I am happy when people like even a few recipes in my books (since I don't expect people to have the same tastes/preferences that I do), so to hear that you use it that often means I have accomplished one of the things I set out to do with Vive. Thank you. Now I have to get to work on the next book... :)

Dreena, hands-down our favorite TEV recipe is the Mexican Tofu Tacos. DELICIOUS! We also really like the cornmeal chili bake & the tomato-olive rice bake (can you tell we like casserole-y type dishes?) I also love the cinnamon chippers... I should tell you that the minute I got Vive in the mail I made the fudgy brownie recipe. My husband hasn't been able to keep his hands off of them-- he LOVES them-- especially slathered w/ peanut butter!

Hi Stephanie... thank you quite a lot for that feedback! How fantastic to hear that you enjoy all those dishes. What ironic is that in recent months I have had a few people mention that they didn't dig the Tomato Olive Rice Bake - too much onion I think, so I have edited the recipe for the next reprint. Nevertheless, it is a treat to hear that you have been liking that one - and others. The fudgy brownies have become a true favorite, I think... most people never, ever would suspect that they are dairy/egg free. Just good brownies! You're a dear to leave those compliments... thx! :)
