Strawberry-Goji Smoothie

Using frozen strawberries (from the summer stash) and gojis that I buy bulk (see this post), I've been making Strawberry-Goji Smoothies just about every morning for the last number of weeks.

If you haven't found your goji love yet, this smoothie is an excellent way to get them in your diet. The flavor of the bananas and strawberries predominate, and the gojis aren't particularly noticeable. Even my 'goji-unfriendly' daughter sucks up this drink!

I have a new Blendtec, and I must gush about this machine; I'm having a bit of a blender affair. Remember that scene in Crocodile Dundee (that's not a knife... THIS is a knife)? Well, the first time I used my Blendtec I felt like I was in that movie scene. But with a blender. I said "that's not a blender... THIS is a blender" (butchering the Aussie accent in the process)!

Now, every time I use the Blendtec with the girls around, I look at them and say "oh yeeaahhh". They roll their eyes at me. Yes, mommy is a kitchen geek. But this is one amazing machine, so I wear I'll wear that kitchen geek label proudly! I use this blender every day, often 2-3 times a day (especially now that I'm making baby foods, a post on that later). Indeed, I am having an affair with my Blendtec. Hubby has accepted second place.

With this Strawberry-Goji Smoothie, the Blendtec purees the heck out of the flax seeds and gojis - blitzes them to smithereens. Here it is in motion, though you can't quite get the full effect. It's a beautiful thing. And the smoothie is a delicious, nutritious thing. Go make it.

Dreena, I plan on buying that exact blender in the new year. I've read such great things about it. I'm glad you're enjoying yours.

As for the baby food, I used your information at the back of Vive when feeding The Peach. Making your own baby food is time consuming but so worth it knowing that your lil' one is starting off eating yummy and nutritious foods.

I am SO excited to have found you -- I am starting a Vegan challenge tomorrow. 7 days of a vegan diet. As a triathlete, I'm really excited to see how it impacts my performance.

I asked my blog readers and Twitter followers for resources and your book (EDBV) was the #1 choice!

Thanks for posting so much great information. Wish me luck!

Hi Dreena,

I've been debating over the blendtec or the have made the decision a little easier.

Have a wonderful week!!

The Blendtec rocks -- and it's a hundred bucks cheaper than the Vitamix! Woo!

Color me jealous. :)

Thanks for sharing info for the Blendtec. What a beautiful blender (is it sad I find beauty in kitchen appliances?). I think it's design, and price, trumps the Vitamix. If I ever find myself in the market for a quality blender, I will be considering this one for sure.

Love my Blendtech. I got it last year for Christmas and have used it everyday... most days I use it more than once!

I need a Blendtec! I'm not sure how much longer my regular blender will hold out. That smoothie looks delicious, btw.

Stefania, yup, it certainly is extra work - and another "to-do" every couple of days, but I agree, making baby food is entirely worth it. And, it's far less expensive than trying to feed them organic jarred baby food every meal!

Hi Katy, that is so nice to hear, thank you! Congrats on the vegan challenge... I'm guessing you're about halfway into the week now...? How's it going? It's even easier after the first few weeks, so if you can challenge yourself further, try to go a month or more and then see how you feel! Good luck. :)

Marianne, it's not sad at all... if so, I'm in trouble! ;)

Thanks everyone for chiming in!!

Hi Dreena,

I, too, have been contemplating buying a new blender. Do you think the Blendtec is pretty comparable to a Vitamix or is the Blendtec better?

On a completely unrelated note, I just made the oatmeal raisin cookies out of ED&BV and they are AMAZING. Thank you!! The only trouble is that I eat so many in one sitting. Also, your fudgy brownie recipe (from Everyday Vegan? I have all of your books so sometimes I forget which one contains which recipe and have to check all three) has become a go-to for me. SO good.

Stefania, you keep me in the loop! I need you as my publicist. ;)

Blonderland, I haven't ever used a vitamix, so I cannot compare the two. I can only report on my experience with the Blendtec, and well, you read how much I love it! It's amazing too that it can pulverize and blend what it can, and the blade isn't even sharp - all the power of the machine, super cool. That's so nice to hear about the cookies & brownies... lovely that they are enjoyed so much, thank you!

Dreena, I think this demonstrates that I spend far too much time online. However, if I was asked to be your publicist I wouldn't think twice. :-)

Oooh, I am a Blendtec girl too. I LOVE my Blendtec. If my house was on fire and I had to evacuate, I'd grab my 5 kids, my hubby, and my Blendtec :)

I just purchased the new big Blendtec jug, have you seen it? It's a 3 Quart, BPA-free jug. It's a great size for all the blending I do for our big family :)

Enjoy your new kitchen toy!
