In September I wrote a newspaper article about back-to-school lunches. I included tips for healthier sandwiches as long as my Creamy Hummus recipe from Vive le Vegan!.
I thought I'd share this article with you today. The Creamy Hummus recipe is on my recipes page here.
I know some of you already have Vive and thus my Creamy Hummus recipe. Nevertheless, be sure to click on through to my cooking page for some great sandwich ideas - whether for yourself or your kidlets. Enjoy!! :)

The BEST hummus recipe EVER! Thanks for the reminder that I need to make it again soon.
I just bought some chickpeas- and I'm a hummus loving girl. I'm definitely going to have to make this, seeing as I still have not tried this recipe. (I know- shame on me). Would it be a crime to leave out the tahini? Or is there something I could substitute for it?
Thanks for all the sandwich tips!

I love hummus on sandwiches. It's also great paired up with some olive tapenade and grilled veggies. Yum!
Thanks for the article Dreena. As someone who works two jobs and doesn't always have time to make little meals to take with me; I eat a lot of sandwiches. Sometimes, I get bored. I was able to grab a few helpful tips from you. Thanks again!
Wait now, Julie, can I change that recipe name, I like yours much better! :) Seriously, that's super sweet, thank you.
Teresa, there isn't much tahini in the recipe, so you don't get a prominent taste of it in the hummus. If you are still really wary about adding the hummus, you can either omit it - or try about 1 tbsp of cashew butter and 1 tbsp of tahini to lessen the tahini taste even more. You *can* make it without the tahini, but it loses some creaminess and texture. Adding more olive oil will help some if you do omit the tahini. Good luck! :)
Agreed, Kris. For me, hummus can become a meal pretty easily!!
Cool Carrie, you're welcome! I'm glad you were able to find a couple of things in there to perk up your sandwiches once in a while. :)
Dreena,
Thanks for the sandwich ideas.I prepare sandwiches/wraps for DH everyday for lunch and it sometimes gets boring to eat/prepare the same things.
Confession: I sometimes eat hummus on bread for breakfast.
I have the book--but haven't tried the recipe yet. I sure will now. Much cheaper than buying hummus--and certainly much creamier.
Isil, I also pack lunches for my hubby every day. He doesn't seem to get bored of some the same things week to week, even though I find the same things fairly uninteresting to keep putting in his lunchbox! :)
Urban Vegan, I won't tell... as long as you won't whisper a word that I sometimes sneak dark chocolate with my tea in the mornings!! It's all coming out now, hey?
thanks for the tip and links too!
