DVD! & Vegan Women
The NEWS!
You've been asking... When is that dvd coming out? Well, it's here!!
It is called Everyday Dish, and you can pick up the dvd here.

As I was putting this post together, it made me think about the women of vegan cooking. Really, most of the vegan cookbooks on the market are by women. With the exception of a few books including restaurant and chef-authored books (ex: Millenium Restaurant), us ladies are bringing vegan food to the table every day! Real, everyday, practical yet delicious vegan recipes.
You know them... Robin Robertson, Bryanna Clark Grogan, Sarah Kramer, Isa Chandra Moskowitz, Joanne Stepaniak, Donna Klein, Mindy Toomay, Nava Atlas, Beverly Lynn-Bennett... and Vesanto Melina/Brenda Davis, teaching us the nutrition of it all. We also have Colleen Patrick-Goudreau with Compassionate Cooks sharing her cooking and entertaining wisdom, and Mollie Katzen, whose vegetarian books probably helped many of us along the path to this vegan diet.
I think this is just the coolest! Look at the length of this list! There are some that I haven't mentioned, and others that co-author (ex: Michelle Hirsch, Venturesome Vegan Cooking).
So I thank my fellow, fabulous vegan ladies for their contributions to the vegan movement. I give them much credit for their efforts, and praise their work.
And now, you have a totally awesome dvd from myself, Bryanna, and Julie Hasson. More divine vegan food to celebrate vegan eating. Dish it up, guys... go check it out!

I think it's funny that you added the leftover spoonful of cookie batter to the cookies because I always eat that up. One of the major perks of vegan cookies in my opinion. Yum!

Hi Hyphen_Helena. I luv that apron! The best gift that a friend gave me!! Yeah, I probably would have scraped the spoon if I didn't have to worry about melted chocolate all over my teeth while talking! At home it's all about eating straight off the spoon. :)

Thanks for the encouragement regarding my Dad. Yes, impending just means he's on the low end of too high blood-sugar (and other numbers) and has been ordered to change his diet! Here's hoping we can get him to stick to it!

I do have a question though-what are your thoughts regarding mock meats and tofu? I had heard you mention in an interview somewhere that you do not eat a lot of tofu. Could you please explain your thoughts surrounding this?

Hi anonymous, thank you, that's really nice to hear. We eat tofu, as well as tempeh, and use soy milk and soy yogurt at times too. We just don't eat eat in excess. I have explained to people in interviews and such that we don't rely heavily on soy products, because I think the impression many people have is that if you are vegan, you must have to eat a lot of soy to get protein - and that's just not the case. Protein is available in legumes, whole grains, whole grain breads and pastas, nuts and seeds, and vegetables. So, while we eat tofu and other soy products, we don't necessarily eat it every day, and we enjoy the variety of other vegan foods. As for mock meats - we aren't a family that eats a lot of those. Mostly because the texture doesn't appeal to us. We like some veggie burgers - like Amy's - and our daughters like veggie hot dogs, but as for mock chicken strips, sliced deli meats, fake meat balls, etc, most of those aren't very interesting for us/ They often taste similar (at least the varieties available here), and we just aren't impressed by them. Plus, we don't 'miss' chicken nuggets and such, so we don't look for things to replace them. Ooh, I've gone on again, hope that answers your question - and thanks for your note. :)

Cute, Urban Vegan! I don't mind being called a diva once in a while... as long as it's a vegan diva! I would love to get to that cafe (or another raw restaurant), to experience how raw ingredients can be transformed into something so delectable, and not even seeming to be 'raw'.
